A day at work

My day starts at 7:45 am. I get up and I try to wake up my daugther (very hard work) because she has classes in the morning and I leave her in the college. After that, I go to work. When I arrive to the office, I take breakfast, reading news online in my work station, checking personal emails.
Due the morning, I check my daily schedule and prepare everything in order to go out to make preventive maintenance tasks. Once I finished those tasks, I go to lunch. Sometimes I lunch in my home, when I have time to do it, quickly. Sometimes I lunch with my workmates in a restaurant near to the office.
After lunch, I have to make some reports regarding activities performed during last month in order to keep informed to our customers.
I leave the office at 6:30 pm to go home. Here start my second part of the day, where I have to work too much. My little son is waiting for me everyday. All he need is play. Play with his cars, play football inside home, watch some favorites videos in youtube, etc. He make me work more than I work in the office. And I like it. We try to have dinner at 9:00, everybody talk about its day, watch the news on TV.
At 11:00 pm, my little son is sleeping 1 hour ago. My daugther, connected in her laptop. My wife and me, tired so is time to go to bed.

1. When did you begin/start to work at Kapsch?

A// I started to work in Kapsch in 2005

2. What was your first position?

A// My first position in Kapsch was Inspector. I had to check civil works on the highway and make reports every day.

3. Did you have any problems at the beginning?

A// I had some problems at the beginning when I had to speak english with some Swedish workmates.



Present

1. What do you do at Kapsch?

A// I'm a Senior Technician now. I work under a Contract Maintenance for three main customer. Autopista Central, Costanera and Vespucio highway.

2. How long do you work everyday?

A// I work 8 hours per day. Monday to Friday. Some times I have to stay "on call", just in case that any customer calls me to fix some problems.

3. How do you get to the office?

A// Every day I go to the office by car, but I would like to came to the office by bycicle. I live close to the office.

4. Describe a typical day at work?

A// My typical day starts having breakfast on my desk, reading digital newspaper in the pc. Reading my personal e-mails and work e-mails, too. After that, I prepare the work that I have to do outside (preventive maintenance). Then I return to the office. I take lunch from 1 to 2 pm. After lunch, I have to prepare some reports according to the maintenance task. I have to do some administrative work in the office, waiting until 6 pm.

5. What project are you working on at the moment?

A// I'm working under 3 contract maintenance until now. AC, CN and VNE.

1. How long have you worked for Kapsch?

A// I have worked in Kapsch for almost 8 years.

2. Have you ever travelled abroad?

A// Yes, I have travelled to Sweden in order to take some training courses. A year ago, I made a trip to South Africa to work in a new project called NRG (new roadside generation)


Plans / dreams

1. What would you like to do in the future (at work)?

A// In the future, I would like to travel more ando work in new projects.

2. Would you like to make any changes about your job?

A// No, I wouldn't make changes in my job, except my salary.

Music

To be honest, I don't have a favorite singer or a favorite band. I try to listen all kind of music going by 70's music, brazilian music, local folk music, rock progressive and classic like Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd.
 
  Sometime I prefer listening music according to the activity performed. For example, if I'm reading or writting, I prefer listening instrumental music, like classical music or progressive rock like Mike Oldfield in Tubular Bells album. This kind of music that help to the concentration.
  When I'm doing housework I prefer to listen another kind of music, a little bit noisy, something more energetic that make you keep up. For this cases I listen Led Zeppelin, Korn or U2. In Spanish could be Babasonicos, Bersuit Vergarabat, Los Bunkers or Chico Trujillo. This kind of music make me feel very active.
 
  When I try to rest, no sleep, only take a break I take my guitar and play some song from Silvio Rodriguez, Victor Jara, Manuel García, etc.
 
   As you can see, trough the music you can find the right music for an appropriate time. In my case, will depend on the activity that I'm performing or state of mind in which I'm, so when somebody ask me about the favorite kind of music, I try avoid to say "I don't like this kind of music because...bla, bla". I´m open mind regarding music styles and my heard is prepared to listen new styles.

Holyidays

Holidays:

This year my holidays were really relaxed. Only 2 weeks, staying at the parent's house in Loncura, Quintero was enough to get back new energy to work the rest of the year. Get up at 11.00 am, take a breakfast and go to walk along to the beach with my wife and sons is really necesary in order to forget a stressfull year. After lunch, take a nap with my son is a pleasure that I can't do during the year. Long conversations with the family regarding anything, spending a lot of time without think about next task or obligations to do is the real meaning to have a nice vacations. I think this were the best thing of my summer.
During my stay in this place, we visited differents places around Quintero, like Ritoque, Horcon, Maitencillo, Papudo, etc. Every day a new place to visit and go for a swim or take a sunbath.
Before sunset, come back to home, take a shower and prepare a evening stroll with my sons to Quintero to visit craft fairs, mechanical games, etc. They really enjoy this activity. After dark, when my sons are sleeping, we sit on the backyard, light a fire and stay by the fire, talking about the day's activities, drinking or eating something until the fire burn out.
